A young man of many talents

Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

Junior Enrique Resendiz is a student with varied interests. He works at Rosen Hotels. He wrestles with the Amateur Athletic Union of the USA and has traveled around he country to different tournaments and earned scholarships for college. He recently placed third in a national tournament. He finds wrestling helps relieve stress and could open the door for him to attend the University of California, Los Angeles, where he would like to study physical therapy.

Resendiz also has creative skills. He received third place honors at a local poetry competition in Orlando. He hopes to compete in the national Brave New Voices Festival, which brings together young poets from across the globe, so that they can create new pathways toward artistic growth, civic engagement and youth development. Resendiz said he writes about life and his thoughts. He shared this poem with us:

By my side

I would travel to the end of the earth

forget the pain and the hurt your more than its

worth I’ll put in the work just to keep you by

my side till the end of my life till I’m taken

away and no longer fight whether I’m wrong or I’m

right. I want you beside me at night and I’ll do

anything for you. That’s true I love you and that will never

change. I want things to be the same 20 years down

the road. You’ve taken more than my heart, you’ve

taken my soul. I hope that you and I can grow

old.
